WARSAW — A woman already serving a 12-year sentence on drug charges was sentenced this week in Kosciusko County in another drug case.
Alysha N. Cook, 30, Rockville, was charged with dealing methamphetamine, a level 4 felony. A methamphetamine possession charge was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Cook was sentenced in Kosciusko Circuit Court on Thursday, Feb. 24. She appeared in court via Zoom as she’s currently incarcerated in the Rockville Correctional Facility.
In August 2021, Cook received a 12-year prison sentence from Marshall County for methamphetamine dealing.
In March 2020, the NET43 Drug Task Force was contacted by the Marshall County Narcotics Unit who advised they had a NET43 confidential informant who could make a purchase of methamphetamine from Cook.
The informant was outfitted with an audio and video recording device and provided with documented NET43 money for the controlled purchase.
Upon arrival at a residence, the informant met with Cook, who provided them with methamphetamine. The informant handed Cook documented NET43 funds, left the home and met with investigators at the post-buy location where the informant surrendered the drugs.
The informant bought 3.36 grams of meth from Cook. An unidentified child who was clearly underage was observed in the surveillance footage and was present during the sale.
Defense Attorney Austin Rovenstine said Cook has a minor criminal history and has accepted responsibility for her actions.
Cook said she made poor choices and apologized.
For dealing methamphetamine, Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Michael Reed sentenced Cook to six years in the Indiana Department of Correction. The six-year sentence will be served concurrently, or at the same time as, the sentence Cook is currently serving in the Marshall County case.
She must also pay $285 in restitution to NET43.
