Jam Session To Benefit Wounded Warriors
The public is urged to join the band Short Term Memories and the North Webster American Legion Post 253 in a good old fashioned musical jam session beginning at noon Saturday. The event will take place in the legion’s picnic pavilion, just across the covered bridge from the legion’s parking lot.
Funds raised will go to local wounded warriors through the American Legion. Concessions, raffles, drawings, a cash bar and silent and live auctions will also be used to earn money for these local heroes at the family friendly event.
As Linda Land, one of the organizers said, “Take a break from the lake and give back to those who gave.” Whether playing or listening, the event will be a fun and different way to spend a summer Saturday.
This is the fourth jam session this year that Short Term Memories and the Legion have collaborated on for the local wounded warriors. “They have all gone well and we are looking toward the best one yet,” explained Raph Luce of the band.
However, more help is needed for Saturday in terms of muscians, workers at the event and donations for the auctions. Items can be dropped off at the American Legion. North Webster Boy Scouts have already enlisted to provide hot dogs with all the fixings.
Short Term Memories is in its 15th year as a band performing in northern Indiana and between them have more than 300 years of experience. Luce said, “Most of the members live in the area and want to give back to those who have been injured defending our freedoms. We thought, ‘Let’s do it, do something for these soldiers.’”
The band’s sound is brass oriented rock and roll harking back to groups like Chicago of the late 1960s and 1970s. However, any type of music is welcomed at the jam. “The more, the better,” explained band member Kurt Kruger.
