Special Olympic Athletes Compete At Tippecanoe Valley HS

AKRON — Special Olympic athletes from Kosciusko County competed at the annual spring sports event held at Tippecanoe Valley High School on Saturday, April 9.
The athletes participated in bocce and track and field on a very cold day.
Bocce
Bocce players rolled into a first place slot, with two teams tying for second and one team placing third in their respective flights under returning bocce coach Joe Baranowski.
The teams were:
- First Place: Matt Bamell, Scott Frush, Cheryl Lewis and Kathy Kumfer
- Second Place Teams: Gale Vanator, Jerry Davis, John Ong and Liz Wabol

25m Walk and 50m Walk

Standing Long Jump and 50m Dash
- First place: Ruby Mock
100m Dash and Mini Javelin Throw
- First place: Kevin McPeak
- Second place: Morgan Swafford
Softball Throw
- First Place: Ruby Mock and Walter Holtz
- Second Place: Sandy Hunter and Billie Holtz
Becky Walls, Special Olympics coordinator for Kosciusko County, would like to thank Valerie Flanagan for organizing the heats at track and field competition, and Gene Hughes for securing the facility and volunteering and the coaches. The athletes will continue to practice and compete regionally with the goal of attending the Indiana State games in Terre Haute in June.
Kosciusko County Special Olympics will be having a bowl-a-thon at The Bowling Alley in Warsaw from 1-5 p.m. May 1. The public is invited and can sponsor a bowler to help Special Olympics raise needed funds.
