WARSAW — Three new alcohol permits for Kosciusko County have been purchased by area businesses.
These permits for the county were made available for purchase due to an increase in population. A permit auction took place in Indianapolis on April 7.
Full-Service Dining Inc. successfully bid on a beer, wine and liquor – restaurant permit for $45,000. Their registered office address belongs to Quality Dining Inc., Mishawaka. According to their website, QDI develops, owns and operates several restaurants in Indiana and Michigan.
Family Express Corporation, the registered business name for Family Express gas stations, successfully bid on a beer and wine dealer – grocery store permit for $55,000.
Warsaw Seafood Inc., owners of Asian Cajun in Warsaw, purchased a beer and wine retailer – restaurant permit for $750. They are also backup bidders on Full Service Dining Inc. and Family Express Corporation’s permits.
Local Board Meeting
Two alcohol permits with no violations were approved by Kosciusko County Alcohol and Tobacco Commission Member Alan Alderfer and State Excise Officer April Tackett during a May 5 meeting.
The permits were for Family Express Corporation, doing business as Family Express #82, 409 Argonne Road, Warsaw; and Wilby’s Inc., doing business as Wilby’s Gas & Goodies, 307 W. Main St., Mentone.
Board Members Elim Smith and Dan Woods were unable to attend the meeting. Permits with no violations can be approved by attending board members, even with a lack of quorum. Three permits with violations and a permit in escrow were all continued to the commission’s June meeting.
The permits with violations are Arrow Um, doing business as Warsaw Seafood, 937 N. Detroit St., Warsaw; La Troje, 115 S. Buffalo St., Warsaw; and Port Winona LLC, 807 E. Canal St., Winona Lake. Representatives for Arrow Um were present at the May 5 meeting. No representatives were present for La Troje or Port Winona.
A permit for Elisabeth Thompson was continued for further investigation. The permit is in escrow and based out of Mentone.
The local ATC board’s next meeting will be held at the Kosciusko County Courthouse at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 2.
