Area Accident Reports
Kosciusko County
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accidents:
- 6:41 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2801 W. Old Road 30, Warsaw. Drivers: Linda K. Smith, 68, South CR 700W, Claypool; and Joseph L. Akers, 49, Bancroft Avenue, Rochester. Smith was backing her vehicle when she hit Akers’ vehicle. Damage up to $2,500.
- 10:15 p.m. Sunday, June 12, North CR 800W, south of West CR 640N, Etna Green. Driver: Walter A. Barnes, 39, South Cavin Street, Ligonier. Barnes was traveling south on North CR 800W when a deer entered the roadway. Damage up to $2,500.
- 9:16 p.m. Saturday, June 11, US 30, east of North SR 19, Etna Green. Driver: Juan J. Martinez, 57, Jasper Street, Joliet, Ill. Martinez was traveling east on US 30 when a deer entered the roadway. Damage up to $5,000.
- 11:20 p.m. Friday, June 10, North SR 15, north of West CR 1100N, Milford. Drivers: Ryan A. Kahler, 64, West Fifth Street, Milford; and Debra A. Fitzsimmons, 67, East CR 100N, Warsaw. Kahler was traveling north on North SR 15 when he attempted to a pass a northbound vehicle. As he attempted to pass, he did not notice Fitzsimmons’ vehicle traveling south. Fitzsimmons’ vehicle left the roadway and rolled at least once. Kahler’s vehicle also left the roadway. Kahler was taken to Goshen Hospital for unknown injuries and didn’t complain of any injuries on scene. Fitzsimmons was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital for injuries to her left hand and head pain. Damage up to $25,000.
Syracuse
Officers with the Syracuse Police Department investigated the following accidents:
- 2:26 p.m. Saturday, June 11, West Pearl Street, west of North Huntington Street, Syracuse. Driver: Kai M. Miller, 18, North CR 350W, Columbia City. Miller was backing his vehicle when he hit a parked, unoccupied vehicle. Damage under $750.
- 2:21 a.m. Saturday, June 11, North SR 13, south of CR 650E, Syracuse. Drivers: Nicholas L. Dunn, 32, South Woodrow Drive, Pendleton; and John T. Kennedy, 22, East Epworth Forest Road, North Webster. Dunn was traveling south on SR 13 when he rear-ended Kennedy’s vehicle. Dunn said Kennedy’s vehicle suddenly braked and stopped in the roadway. Kennedy was incoherent and unable to answer questions at the scene. He was taken to Lutheran Hospital for possible internal injuries. Damage up to $10,000.
