Non-Profits Make Appeal To City
During the regular meeting of the Warsaw Common Council Monday night, five non-profit organizations made their appeals for funding for the 2014 operating year.
First on the agenda was Karl Swihart representing the City-County Athletic Complex. The CCAC is seeking $31,000 to help with general operating expenses.
Kosciusko Area Bus Service, also known as KABS, is seeking $28,500 to operate the service and provide transportation for the general public from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. KABS is a service of Cardinal Services Inc.
Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation is asking for $50,000 from the city to assist with efforts to retain businesses, promote new business development and continue to work toward infrastructure development.
The Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County is requesting a total of $17,500 from the city. The monies will be used to continue operating the animal shelter, provide animal control, offer spay/neuter clinics and medically care for animals while working to find them homes.
Finally, the Warsaw Community Development Corporation is asking for $12,600 for operating expenses and an additional $25,000 to assist with facade grants. Facade grants are currently made available to downtown merchants to help them improve or further develop local business.
Another budget meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at city hall. During that meeting, Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer said city departments will begin to present their budget requests for 2014.
