SILVER LAKE — The top northwest corner of the old three-story Silver Lake school building was the first to be removed as demolition got underway Tuesday morning, Sept. 6.
An excavator started on the corner of the school Tuesday morning and began toppling the exterior walls while also sorting debris.
A worker for the company handling the demolition, Advanced Demolition Services, Mansfield, Ohio, could be seen continually spraying water on the debris to reduce dust.
The school was constructed in 1932 as a high school and was eventually transitioned into an elementary. It closed in 2005.
Numerous people with cameras in hand drove up to the school along High Street in Silver Lake early Tuesday to watch the deconstruction project.
Former students and residents gathered recently to honor the building before its demise.
