Valley To Use New Junior Achievement Job Resource Tool
Staff Report
AKRON — Tippecanoe Valley High School is to use a new online resource provided by Junior Achievement to help students prepare for careers.
That’s the Digital Career Book, which Warsaw Community Schools, another partner with JA, is also utilizing.
This resource will provide a career interest inventory to all TVHS students, mapping a path to their future. The tool provides career suggestions aligning to the results of their survey inventory with corresponding local/national wages, work expectations, education/training requirements, tuition costs and trades.
The Digital Career Book also connects students to local internships, apprenticeships, tuition assistance and direct employment opportunities. Students will also learn what skills business leaders are looking for in the future.
Employers pay to have their companies as part of the career book. Valley is grateful that Pike Lumber Co. of Akron is the first Valley business partner to register for the JA digital tool.
Local businesses or colleges/trade schools may acquire more information or schedule a presentation to learn how to be part of the book by contacting TVSC Director of Marketing, Public Relations and Grants Lori Tilden-Geiger, also a JA board member, at [email protected] or (574) 527-3000.
At an event related to the Digital Career Book on Wednesday, Sept. 14, Tilden-Geiger praised the resource, saying to InkFreeNews that it was “a great way to easily connect (students with employers) instead of (them) going out knocking door-to-door.”
“I’m excited for the opportunity for our students,” she said.
