Robert E. Rhoades
Robert E. Rhoades, 84, passed away in his residence on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at 10:22 a.m. in Warsaw, Ind.
On Aug. 30, 1928, Robert was born to Artie and Florence (Linn) Rhoades in Warsaw. He was a lifetime resident of Warsaw, and lived for 10 years in Sarasota, Fla. On Nov. 9, 1951, he married Barbara Wallace in Leesburg, Ind., she survives.
Robert enjoyed wood working and building crafts, outdoors fishing and hunting and collecting old buttons, making button boards. Robert enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre along with reading old westerns. Many will remember Robert as a regular at Breading’s Cigar Store and one of the famous Dominos champions at Breading’s. Robert was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and great – grandfather.
Robert worked at Big Boy Products for 10 years and drove school bus for Warsaw Community Schools and worked at Schrader’s Automotive for 19 years. Robert served his country in the Indiana National Guard, retiring as a Captain. He was a member of the American Legion Post #49, Warsaw, and the Elks Lodge of Warsaw.
Robert is survived by his wife: Barbara Rhoades, Warsaw; a son: Todd Rhoades, Winona Lake, Ind.; a daughter: Teresa Rhoades, Warsaw; two granddaughters: Jenna (Eric) DeFord, Warsaw; and Sara Spear, Warsaw; two great–grandchildren: Braxton and Zach DeFord, Warsaw; and several nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by a sister: Betty Dunwell; and two brothers: Jack Rhoades and Bill Rhoades.
Graveside funeral services for Robert will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Oakwood Cemetery, Legion Circle, with Military Honors by American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126, Warsaw.
Family has asked for memorials to be made to the Kosciusko County Homecare and Hospice, P.O. Box 1196, Warsaw, IN 46581-1196.
