CLAYPOOL — Claypool Police Department is now a part of the county-wide, multi-agency drug task force, NET43.
Claypool’s council members approved a memorandum of understanding between CPD and NET43 during a Tuesday, Oct. 18, meeting. Town Marshal Ben Sanders said Claypool becoming part of NET43 would have no effect on the number of hours he works and the type of work he completes.
“It just allows me to be a part of the drug task force, to work with them if I have a traffic stop involving drugs and allows me to work with the people that have information I could access,” said Sanders.
Council also approved the establishment of an asset forfeiture fund for CPD and approved the 2023 town budget, which totals $376,456. The asset forfeiture fund will allow CPD to receive seizure money from drug dealing cases.
In other business, Council President Benny Stage Jr. announced the town is looking for new legal counsel. Town Attorney Travis Neff is taking on a new job but will continue working for Claypool until Oct. 31.
“Thank you for your years of support and service for the town of Claypool,” said Stage to Neff. “I’ve enjoyed working with you and wish you all the best in your next adventure.”
Neff said he’s sent referrals to Clerk-Treasurer Pat Warner for attorneys to consider as legal counsel.
Council also:
- Reminded residents to place leaves for pickup in biodegradable bags.
- Reminded the public that trunk or treat will take place in town from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31.
The council’s next meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the Claypool Lions Club building.
