Barbee Hotel Burglarized For Under-Age Party
A Warsaw Police Department K-9 tracked burglary suspects to a nearby residence following an early Tuesday morning break-in at the Barbee Hotel, 3620 N. Barbee Rd., Warsaw.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the hotel at about 1:55 a.m. Tuesday in reference to a reported burglary in progress. Upon arrival, officers discovered a window where entry had likely been made. A witness told police several subjects were observed leaving the area near the window where an air conditioning unit had been removed. The subjects were fleeing the area carrying what appeared to be bottles.
A K-9 from the Warsaw Police Department was called to assist at the scene and was able to track to the residence at 62 EMS B70 Lane. Officers surrounded the home and were able to finally make contact at the door with Daniel Martin Motherwell, 52, of Fort Wayne.
Officers obtained a search warrant for the property after Motherwell refused to allow them in the premises to investigate the burglary. Once inside, deputies located the individuals matching the witness’ initial description. They also located other potential evidence.
Offices subsequently arrested Sarah Ann Cummins, 21, of Bloomington, and Tommy James Coonan, 20, of Fort Wayne, on preliminary charges of felony burglary to a business/structure. Motherwell was also arrested and preliminarily charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor due to the under-aged party that was occurring at the residence.
Bonds for Cummins and Coonan were set at $5,000 individually, while Motherwell’s bond was set at $500.
The Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office also assisted in the investigation.
