Staff Report
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested after officers found more than 100 grams of methamphetamine on his person during a traffic stop.
Dakotah Cephus Shepherd, 29, 1522 Brookview Ave., Warsaw, is charged with dealing methamphetamine, a level 2 felony; escape, a level 5 felony; two counts of resisting law enforcement, both class A misdemeanors; and false informing, a class B misdemeanor.
On Oct. 4, a Warsaw Police officer noticed a motorcycle with no registration plate disregard a red light. While the officer attempted to pull the motorcycle over, the driver was traveling slow and at first did not yield to the officer. The motorcyclist eventually turned around and pulled over on West Winona Avenue.
Shepherd told police he did not have his license or registration with him. Shepherd also provided the officer with a false name. A second officer arrived at the scene recognized him.
Upon being told he was being arrested for false informing, Shepherd became upset and started moving around abruptly.
Shepherd then fled on foot and ran across the backyard of a residence on West Winona Avenue, but tripped and fell and eventually was taken into custody.
During a search, officers found 111 grams of methamphetamine in Shepherd’s backpack.
Shepherd has already been arrested and released on his own recognizance.
