WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested on drug charges after officers responded to a death investigation.

Naquan Rasheed Williams, 21, 510 E. Center St., Warsaw, is charged with dealing a narcotic drug with enhancing circumstances, a level 2 felony; possession of a narcotic drug with enhancing circumstances, a level 4 felony; unlawful possession of a handgun, a level 5 felony; and possession of a legend drug, a level 6 felony.

On Feb. 2, Warsaw Police officers responded to a report of a woman who was facedown and not breathing at a residence. Upon officers’ arrival at the scene, the woman was deceased. Officers also found two men in the residence, one of whom was Williams.

According to court documents, in plain view in the residence, officers saw drug paraphernalia; a hand-rolled cigarette containing plant material; and a round, blue pill. An Indiana State Police trooper arrived to assist and noticed Williams appeared to be in possession of a handgun. The trooper removed the handgun, which was loaded.

Upon further searching Williams’ person, officers found a plastic bag containing a fungal material, drug paraphernalia and numerous colored pills with labels. The drugs were later identified as legend and narcotic drugs. Many of the blue pills Williams possessed were counterfeit and contained 5.2 grams of fentanyl.

A records check showed Williams did not have a valid handgun license and was also not allowed to possess a firearm due to a prior felony conviction.

In a conversation with the ISP trooper, Williams said there was a large quantity of blue pills hidden somewhere in the residence, but he was unsure where.

Officers obtained a search warrant for the home and found four blue counterfeit pills containing fentanyl.

Prior to the woman’s death, Williams said he used her cellphone to tell a relative they were on their way to South Bend to purchase fentanyl. He said he rode with the woman to South Bend to his relative’s home, where he introduced the woman and they purchased blue fentanyl pills. Williams said he arranged the drug deal.

At the time of the incident, Williams was on pretrial release for three separate criminal cases, including vehicle theft, domestic battery and marijuana possession. Williams is also under a suspended sentence for possession of a controlled substance.

Williams was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail Feb. 2 with a $50,250 surety and cash bond. Per his bond conditions, Williams cannot leave Kosciusko County. He is also subject to pretrial electronic monitoring through Kosciusko County Community Corrections if he posts bond.
