Kyle DeHart, 21, CR 450 East, Syracuse, and Brandon Woody, 21, currently residing in Wawaka, but formerly of Syracuse, were arrested today on charges of burglary resulting in bodily injury, a Class A felony and battery by means of a deadly weapon, a Class C felony.
According to Syracuse Police Chief Tony Ciriello, evidence collected on April 14 was analyzed and led police to the two men.
The victim, Jeremy Smith, 600 N. Harrison St., Syracuse, has recovered from his injuries, which were not serious nor life threatening, but did require medical treatment at that time.
It was at 12:34 a.m. April 24 that Kosciusko County Central Dispatch received a 911 call about an individual being robbed at his home. The first officer arrived two minutes later and learned that Smith heard someone pounding on his back door. When he went to answer, two males kicked in the back door and attacked him.
Once inside, Smith told police the two males, both dressed in black and wearing ski-type masks, hit him several times. One of the individuals was armed with a handgun during the attack. Smith was able to get away from the two intruders and go to a neighbor’s house to call for police.
K-9 units and officers from Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, North Webster and Winona Lake police departments responded to the scene and assisted in the search for the two suspects.
Bond has been set at $50,000 for each man.
