Marshmallow Fest Brings Fun Starting Tonight
Every Labor Day weekend since 1992, the Ligonier Marshmallow Festival brings games, food and music and much more to downtown Ligonier. Now in its 22nd year, the Marshmallow Festival offers a weekend packed full of fun activities.
The festival starts tonight, Friday, Aug. 30, with pony rides in Kenny Park from 6 to 8 p.m. John Ness Band will rock the stage from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. A fireworks display in Kenny Park at dusk caps off the evening.
Saturday, Aug. 31, offers all kinds of fun on wheels. The car show on Main Street starts at 10 a.m. Pedal tractor pulls begin at noon on the main stage. Starting at 3 p.m. is the bike rodeo for the kids and the garden tractor pulls.
Also on Saturday is the Marshmallow bake off at noon. Bingo will be held at the American Legion post 243 on Main Street, and a Euchre tournament starts at Avalon Village at 2 p.m. for those 55 and older.
The pizza eating contest starts at 2 p.m. Contestants must preregister by Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 5 p.m. Cost is $5 per person.
Entertainment for the evening is provided by The Fords, from Kendallville, performing from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. followed by country star Allan Craig Miller from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. The blue light parade will cruise down Main Street to close out Saturday’s festivities.
New to the Marshmallow Festival is the Armored Fitness Strongman competition, which starts at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1. Feats of strength like dead lifts, sled pull and the farmer’s yoke we’ll be timed. Visit the Armored Fitness Facebook page to sign up.
A motorcycle show will be held on Main Street from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Solution Action Sports is putting on BMX jump shows at 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. A cornhole tournament starts at 2 p.m., with registration from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
John Ness will perform on the main stage from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Big Caddy Daddy, from Fort Wayne, will rock the party from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The grand parade is Monday, Sept. 2 at 2 p.m. on Main Street. This year’s theme is “Putting On The Ritz at the Marshmallow Festival.”
