Seniors Set To Lead Lancers
WINONA LAKE – The Grace College men’s golf team has high expectations for the 2013-14 season thanks to a core of senior leadership.
NAIA All-American winner Trey Stoll and fellow seniors Caleb Rovenstine and Kal Denlinger hope to guide the Lancers to the NCCAA National Championships after falling short last year.
“Our expectations are very high for this year,” said Grace coach Denny Hepler. “We have an experienced team with our seniors. I am optimistic about our chances of winning a couple of our tournaments this year.”
Stoll hopes to continue his success from last year when he averaged just under a 74 on his way to NAIA Third Team All-American honors.
For the Lancers to achieve their lofty goals this season, junior Taylor Fanning and sophomore Kyle Condon will play a big part. Denlinger believes this is the strongest starting five they have had since his freshmen year.
“We believe that we can compete in every tournament this year with the guys we have. We haven’t been able to put two solid days together before in the past, but this year everyone on the team believes that we can do it,” Denlinger said. “If we want to achieve our goals of making it to nationals, we know we need to do.”
Hepler starts his first full season as the Men’s Golf coach this season after taking over in the spring last year.
The Lancer golfers begin their season on Monday and Tuesday at the IWU Invitational at Meshingomeshia Golf Club.
