Milford Passes Resolution Expanding TIF District
Dan Brown, president of the Milford Redevelopment Development Commission, brought forth a resolution during the Milford Town Council meeting, Sept. 9, that would extend Milford TIF district one by 10 years.
Originally, the district, which was established in 1996, was intended to last 20 years, ending in 2016. The new resolution would extend it until 2026. Thirty years is the maximum span of time a TIF district can exist.
Brown noted there are still projects to be completed and infrastructure to be maintained in the area. He added the plan had been presented Sept. 4 to the Kosciusko County Area Planning Commission to make sure it met their standards, which it did.
The extension will allow the town to gather tax revenue from companies in the district and from those that might move in. The funds would then go toward providing services for the companies in the district, such as water and fire protection.
The town council approved the resolution. The next steps in the process will be to advertise the plan and hold a public hearing.
Council President Doug Ruch thanked the members of the redevelopment commission, noting they are all volunteers who have done a lot for the development of Milford.
The council also approved work to be done on the Barth lift station and for it to not exceed estimate of roughly $29,000. The work on the Brock lift station is being funded by the redevelopment commission.
In other council news:
