Warsaw Should Be A Track Town
Dear Editor,
Warsaw should be a Track Town!
Next week on May 9, Warsaw will be hosting the girls and boys track and field NLC championships. Both teams are defending their NLC titles from last year. Come out and cheer on the Tigers. You can see some amazing athletes run, jump, throw, vault and hurdle.
The Lady Tigers track and field team has won every year since 2006. This year could be the 17th consecutive (2006-2023, minus one COVID year). I repeat consecutive, not total.
For comparison: During this period, the big three sports (boys basketball, girls basketball, football) have won/tied a total of 13 times for conference titles.
The current boys and girls track squads are rewriting the all-time lists at Warsaw High School. On just one recent evening in Carmel, 14 athletes competed (nine boys and five girls) and of those athletes 13 ran personal records and one ran a season best time. Of the 14 runners, 11 ran fast enough to be included in the all-time fastest times in history at Warsaw (top 25). And Jordan Randall ā a freshman ā cleared 6 feet 9 inches in the high jump to be runner-up at the Indoor State Meet in March.
Admittedly, Iām biased. But this is a program that just last month Indiana Runner recognized is on the rise. Your support can make Warsaw the Track Town it should be.
