Indy Jazz Fest Kicks Off Thursday
The 2013 Indy Jazz Fest opening night is 8 p.m. Thursday at Howard L. Schrott Center for the Arts at Butler University, West 46th Street, and will feature renowned jazz pianist, songwriter and music producer Allen Toussaint, known for his impact on the 1960s New Orleans music scene. Toussaint was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
Sponsored by Ameriprise Financial, opening night will also feature a photography exhibit from Indianapolis based photographer Mark Sheldon who has teamed up with The Great Frame Up to present a visual experience of jazz music. “No Room for Squares” showcases 18 large prints of local musicians and jazz legends, several of whom will be performing during this year’s festival. The exhibit will be on display through October in the Gallery at the Schrott Center for the Arts.
The 10-day festival begins Sept. 12 at Schrott Center for the Arts and goes through Sept. 21. Tickets are on sale now.
