O’Dell, Cannedy, Goodman, Roe Win Fulton County Republican Races
ROCHESTER — Republicans Trent Allen O’Dell, Robert Cannedy Jr., Brian Goodman and Amy Roe came out as winners in the Rochester Municipal primary election May 2.
O’Dell defeated two-term incumbent Mayor Ted Denton by a landslide victory. O’Dell, a local business owner, received 76.46% of the vote to Denton’s 23.54%.
In the City’s Common Council two-seat at-large race Bob Cannedy Jr. took first with 39.81% of the vote, followed by Brian Goodman with 38.49%. The third candidate, Incumbent councilman Marvin Davis, fell short of his two opponents, receiving 21.69% of the votes.
Moving to the city’s common council District 2 race, Amy Roe defeated incumbent Todd Wilson. Roe received 65.81% of the votes to Wilson’s 34.19%. Wilson, who had no intention of continuing if elected, attempted to withdraw from the primary but missed the deadline.
Also moving on are Republican candidates Brian Fitzwater, common council District 3; and Martin Smith and John Garrett, common council District 5.
Garrett will be facing a rematch with Democrat opponent Joshua Zehner in November. Zehner was unopposed for the district seat on the Democratic primary ballot. Garrett and Zehner went against each other in the 2019 general municipal election with Garrett securing the victory.
There were two other candidates on the Democrat primary ballot.
Incumbent clerk-treasurer Shoda Beehler will move on to the November election. According to reports received, the Republicans will have a candidate going against Beehler in November.
Also unopposed was Ruth Gunter, for the District 1 common council seat.
