WARSAW — Trying to keep up with all of the latest must-read books can quickly turn into an overwhelming endeavor. Whether you’re in the market for a riveting new book or are just on the lookout for your next can’t-put-it-down read, there are so many options out there. If you need a new book to add to your reading list, look no further than this group of some brilliant reads from the New York best-seller list.
First up is “Remarkably Bright Creatures” by Shelby Van Pelt. It’s a luminous debut novel about a widow’s unlikely friendship with a giant Pacific octopus unwillingly residing at the local aquarium — and the truths she finally uncovers about her son’s disappearance 30 years ago. It is a charming, witty, compulsively readable exploration of friendship, reckoning and hope. “Remarkably Bright Creatures” is a beautiful examination of how loneliness can be transformed, cracked open, with the slightest touch from another living thing.
Next up is “Dear Future Mama” by Meghan Trainor. It is a heartfelt and humorous guide for expectant mamas inspired by Meghan’s own journey into motherhood and expert insights from Meghan’s own personal trainer, registered dietitian, husband, and OB-GYN. No shame, no judgment — just straight talk (and laughs) from a bestie who’s been there.
Third, is “I’m Glad My Mom Died” by Jennette McCurdy. This is a heartbreaking yet hilarious memoir from former child actor Jennette McCurdy. She discusses her struggles as a child star, including eating disorders, addiction and a complicated relationship with her overbearing mother — and how she retook control of her life. Told with energizing honesty and dark humor, “I’m Glad My Mom Died” is an inspiring story of resilience, independence and the joy of shampooing your own hair.
Next up is “Spare” by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, second son of King Charles III of the United Kingdom and the late Princess Diana of Wales. For the first time, Prince Harry tells his own story, chronicling his journey with raw, unflinching honesty. A landmark publication, “Spare” is full of insight, revelation, self-examination and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief. The story left me both saddened and uplifted. Saddened at the power of public opinion and the tabloid media to remain unaccountable. Uplifted at having this glimpse into lives that are not mine to know but have been shared anyway. I’m saddened that Harry felt driven to expose himself this way. Hopefully Harry and Meghan can find their own personal peace and continue doing good works and raising their children.
