WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested in two criminal cases for allegedly breaking into a home and attempting to kidnap a teenager.
In the first case, Juan Daniel Rivera-Loaeza, 26, 1692 E. 200N Lot 49, Warsaw, is charged with burglary resulting in bodily injury, a level 3 felony; attempted kidnapping resulting in moderate bodily injury, a level 4 felony; and theft and battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, both level 6 felonies. He is also charged with residential entry, a level 6 felony, in a second case.
On May 19, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a report of a man attempting to enter a residence.
According to court documents, a teenager at the home said they met the man, later identified as Rivera-Loaeza, through social media. The two communicated since November 2022 but the teenager said they blocked Rivera-Loaeza on social media about a week earlier.
The teenager said they heard a noise outside and saw Rivera-Loaeza at their bedroom window. During their conversation, Rivera-Loaeza allegedly became aggravated, tore a window screen, and reached inside the residence. He attempted to grab and pull the teenager out of the home.
The teenager had visible scrapes and scratch marks on their arm from the window frame and screen. They hit Rivera-Loaeza and were able to escape, while Rivera-Loaeza grabbed the teenager’s cellphone and left the scene.
On May 24, a KCSO deputy responded to a report of Rivera-Loaeza attempting to enter the home again. The teenager said they heard someone outside their room and saw Rivera-Loaeza trying to get inside.
Rivera-Loaeza opened the home’s door and stepped inside, but left after the homeowner yelled that he had a firearm and told him to leave.
For these cases, Rivera-Loaeza was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on May 24. If released on bond, Rivera-Loaeza has multiple conditions to follow, which include: providing a negative drug screen prior to his release; not possessing any firearms; having no contact with the victim; being GPS monitored through Kosciusko County Community Corrections; and not leaving the state of Indiana without prior written permission from the county courts.
