June Holidays

WARSAW — It’s June, which means one thing for most parents: Kids are out of school and saying “I’m bored” about 20 times a day — if not more.
If that’s the case for you, fill up your calendar with a mix of June holidays and awareness days for an anything-but-boring summer. Below are some holidays and observances I found interesting.
First up is National Iced Tea Day, which is Saturday, June 10. On this day brew and enjoy a glass of iced tea with friends and family.
Want to celebrate the little people in your life? Sunday, June 11, is National Children’s Day and a perfect day to cherish our children. Take them exploring, start new traditions, tell them stories, and pursue new opportunities. Have your heart open to new ideas.
Wednesday, June 14, is Flag Day, which honors our national flag. The holiday commemorates the date in 1777 when the United States approved the design for its first national flag.
Sunday, June 18, is Father’s Day and a perfect way to celebrate the men in our lives. The love, care and affection a father showers upon his children can never be measured in any way. He deserves all the good things in his life, no denying it.
Monday, June 19, is Juneteenth day, a federal holiday in the U.S. commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans. It is one of the most important anniversaries in our nation’s history. It’s a day to commemorate the hardships endured by ancestors.
Wednesday, June 21, is National Day of Indigenous People and it takes place on the summer solstice. It’s a special occasion to learn more about the rich and diverse cultures, voices, experiences and histories of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. The day honors the rituals and beliefs of the indigenous communities. The celebration also coincides with the summer solstice, which recognizes the beginning of a new year as per the indigenous worldview.
June is Pride Month, which is an annual celebration of the contributions made by the LGBTQ+ community to history, society and cultures. In most places, Pride is celebrated throughout the month of June each year in commemoration of its roots in the Stonewall Riots of June 1969.
