Mildred ‘Millie’ M. Miller — UPDATED
Mildred M. Miller, fondly known as “Millie,” passed away unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at the age of 91.
She was a cherished wife, loving mother, doting grandmother and valued friend to many in her community. Born in Thomas, Okla., on April 24, 1932, Millie was one of seven children born to Elias and Minnie (Lantz) Schlabach.
Millie graduated from Goshen College with a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1956 and went on to work as a registered nurse for many years. She touched the lives of countless patients during her time at various doctors’ offices, including the office of Dr. Robert Craig in Syracuse, and nursing homes. Millie was also the co-owner and operator of Mill Pond Farm in Pierceton. The farm was not only a place of business but also a beloved home for Millie’s family.
Those who knew Millie will remember her kind and gentle demeanor that co-existed with a spunky spirit that shone through an infectious personality. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she had a great sense of humor that could make anyone smile. Pure and delightful are perhaps the best adjectives that can be used to describe Millie.
Millie had a great love for baking, and she crafted the most delicious pies and yeast rolls in town. She also enjoyed sewing, creating her own aprons that she often wore while cooking for her farm family while carrying kittens in the pockets, and bird watching in her backyard, where she tended to an array of flowers and vibrant roses with care.
Millie’s family came first, always remaining her focus and top priority. She leaves behind her loving husband Al Miller; daughter, Gwen (Brian) Jones; three sons, Tim Miller, David (Melinda) Miller and Dan Miller; and four grandchildren, Kevin Jones, Bethany Friesen, Sarah Schloss and Rachel Farmer, who will miss their grandmother dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Clara Yoder and Dorothy Schlabach; brothers, David Schlabach, Alva Schlabach, Shem Schlabach and Clayton Schlabach; half-sister, Sylvia Miller; and two half-brothers, Sanford Schlabach and James Schlabach.
Titus Funeral Home is entrusted with Millie’s care. The visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, at the North Webster funeral home, 8056 E. 500N, North Webster, IN 46555. The funeral service will immediately follow with Pastor Todd Oesch officiating. A private burial will be held at Salem Cemetery.
