WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested for allegedly resisting arrest and battering a police officer.
Angel Ernesto Gomez, 22, Warsaw, is charged with battery resulting in bodily injury to a police officer, a level 5 felony; and two counts of resisting law enforcement, both class A misdemeanors.
On June 18, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a physical altercation. Upon arrival, the deputy saw a vehicle leave the scene at a high rate of speed.
According to court documents, the deputy briefly pursued the vehicle, with its two occupants eventually fleeing on foot. The deputy then pursued one of the occupants, later identified as Gomez.
Gomez allegedly ignored the deputy’s verbal commands and refused to put his hands behind his back. He scratched the deputy’s forearm and the deputy pepper sprayed Gomez twice.
The other man who fled the scene was never located.
Gomez was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on June 18, with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
