Dog Adopted After 431 Days In Animal Shelters
Press Release
PIERCETON — After 431 days in Indiana animal shelters, eight-year-old dog Onyx has been adopted.
After many years of having dogs, Becki and Reggie Evans found themselves with a quiet home. Their last dog had passed, and their kids had been gone for years. When the Evans first got married, they got their first dog. Fast forward to the present: the Evans decided they needed to adopt at the Animal Welfare League and brought home two dogs in April – Louie and Ollie.
Just recently, Becki heard about Onyx thanks to Chris Cage’s weekly Wednesday live video from AWL for Willie 103.5. Onyx’s story was also on the front page of the Times-Union and featured on InkFreeNews.
The Evans brought Louie in for a meet-and-greet with Onyx and all went fine. There were over 20 families that came to meet Onyx. Of those families, the Evans were selected to adopt Onyx, who got to go home for free after a woman prepaid the adoption fees for eight long-term senior dogs.
“Onyx is a sweetheart,” said the Evans. “She has not been shy at all about joining in with the boys for outside play time. She and Ollie are together inside and outside. They seem to be best buddies and sleep together. She loves to run in the yard, checking out each corner she can find. She’s so full of love and kisses. She knows she has found her forever home.”
“We could not be happier to see Onyx finally get her chance at a home that every dog deserves,” said Brooke Lyons, AWL adoption specialist and social media tech.
Before Onyx arrived at the AWL, she was a long-term guest at the Kokomo Humane Shelter. She transferred to the AWL on an exchange program to give her a look in a brand-new community.
“If Onyx broke your heart due to her story, just know she will be happy, but we will always have dogs in our kennels that need homes, too,” said Lyons.
