MENTONE — Two men were arrested after an incident at the Mentone Egg Festival.
Omar Jesus Panales, 23, 310 N. Mishawaka St., Akron, is charged with battery to a public safety official, a level 6 felony; resisting law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor; and public intoxication and disorderly conduct, both class B misdemeanors.
Phillip Shane Brown, 37, 207 N. Franklin St., Mentone, is charged with public intoxication, a class B misdemeanor.
On June 3, Mentone’s town marshal was patrolling during the Mentone Egg Festival when he noticed two men who appeared to be drinking alcohol outside of a local business. When the marshal told the two men, later identified as Panales and Brown, to vacate the area since they were drinking in a public space, Panales began yelling vulgar words.
According to court documents, Panales and Brown disregarded the marshal’s directions. At one point, Panales grabbed the marshal’s shirt and resisted arrest.
During the incident with Panales, the marshal sustained abrasions to his left hand and right knee.
A local business owner said Panales and Brown came into their store and bought two 32-ounce bottles of beer. The two began drinking in the store and were told they could not drink the beverages there.
Panales and Brown have both already been arrested and released on their own recognizance.
