UPDATE: Several Taken To Hospital After SR 19, US 30 Wreck

ETNA GREEN — Several people were taken to the hospital after a wreck near Etna Green.
It occurred at 7:21 p.m. Tuesday, July 4, on West US 30 west of North SR 19.
According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office accident report, it looked from the scene that Amber L. Pittman, 37, Elizabeth Street, Rochester, was traveling eastbound on US 30, west of SR 19, in a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse,
When approaching the intersection, her vehicle struck the rear of a 2022 Toyota Supra driven by Jesus E. Vargas De La Luz, 24, Weisser Park Avenue, Fort Wayne.
Vargas De La Luz said he had stopped in the right lane of US 30 for a red traffic light when his vehicle was hit by Pittman’s. Pittman was unable to give a statement to police as she lost consciousness in the wreck and didn’t remember being in it.
She was taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital due to head injuries. Also taken to the hospital were Vargas De La Luz and his two passengers, Daniel Vargas, 15, and David Vargas, 16, both of Weisser Park Avenue, Fort Wayne. All three had complaints of pain.
Police noted in the report Daniel Vargas and David Vargas had been sharing a passenger seat designed for one person in Vargas De La Luz’s vehicle.
Damage was reported at up to $100,000.
