WARSAW — The Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District finalized its 2024 budget and approved the sale of land where the Syracuse recycling drop-off site was formerly located.
A total proposed budget of $471,208 was approved by the district, with the budget going to county council for final approval.
“The budget-to-revenue end (for 2024) is virtually the same,” said Kosciusko County Recycling Depot Executive Director Tom Ganser.
Ganser also said the district received a $5,000 bid for the property where the former Syracuse recycling drop-off site was located. However, the bidder asked the district to complete soil testing at the site. Representatives with the Wawasee Community School Corporation are also interested in purchasing the property for that amount but would not require soil testing.
Pending Warsaw City Attorney Scott Reust’s approval, the property will be sold to Wawasee Community School Corporation.
Ganser told the district’s board members he’s considering a different type of informational booth set-up at the Kosciusko County Community Fair for 2024 due to a lack of foot traffic in the vendors tent for 2023. Ganser said he’s already spoken with the fair’s general manager about the issue potentially being related to the fair’s layout.
The district’s next meeting is at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15.
