WINONA LAKE — Kids got to cool off from the summer heat during a special event Saturday, July 22, in Winona Lake.
The first-ever Splish Splash Winona was held at Winona Lake Limitless Park. From noon to 4 p.m., with the purchase of a $2 wristband, kids could enjoy playing on inflatables with water elements.
There were several water slides and even some mini inflatables so toddlers could have fun as well.
Winona Lake Parks Department Director Holly Hummitch said she came up with the idea after seeing something similar online.
“It is always my goal to do either free or inexpensive events in the community, and I just thought it sounded really fun,” she said.
Kona Ice also was present to provide shaved ice.
Hummitch said she plans to have the event again next year.
Some other events upcoming in Winona Lake include the annual Family Fest for town residents only from 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Miller Sunset Pavilion. There will be dinner and plenty of activities.
Everyone, residents and nonresidents, is welcome to come to the annual Back to School Lunch with the Winona Lake Police Department from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at WLLP.
“We’ll have a big cookout,” said Hummitch regarding the latter event.
