PIERCETON — Jerry Kreger has lived almost all of his 64 years in Pierceton.

His desire to serve his hometown is why he’s seeking to become clerk-treasurer again there.

Kreger has filed to run as a Republican in the 2023 election. He runs against incumbent GOP Clerk-Treasurer Myra Mast.

A town convention held by the Kosciusko County GOP at a yet to be announced date in which the public may vote will determine who the winner is. There will be no actual town election as no candidates from other political parties filed for clerk-treasurer.

Kreger previously was clerk-treasurer for four years before Mast took office. He also served for 16 years on the Pierceton Town Council.

He noted his government experience would be beneficial if he’s elected as the town council might have all or nearly all new members on it. Matt Brubaker is the only current council member to file for reelection.

Kreger said his goals if elected as clerk-treasurer are to maintain “open lines of communication” and “make sure the office is open when (it’s stated to be).”

Kreger graduated from Whitko High School in 1977 and from then-Manchester College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1982.

He’s married to Dawn and they have five children and six grandchildren.

Kreger served on the Pierceton Fire Department for more than 30 years. He’s the treasurer for the Kosciusko County Shrine Club and a member of the Fort Wayne Scottish Rite and has helped transport kids to Shriners Hospitals for Children.

He’s been a member of the Masonic Pierceton Lodge No. 377 for more than 40 years and has coached football at Whitko Community Schools and for the Warsaw Young Tigers.

Kreger noted his father also served on the Pierceton Fire Department and his mother helped start the EMS locally.

“I just want to try to give back to the community,” he said of his run for clerk-treasurer.
