WARSAW — Brief updates on construction and staffing were discussed during an Aug. 8 Warsaw Community Schools’ Board of Trustees meeting.
WCS Director of Facilities Jim LeMasters described the new entryway for Warsaw Community High School as being “very close” to the project’s renderings.
Construction at WCHS is taking place in multiple phases, with the first phase including upgrades to the school’s main entrance, administration offices, guidance offices, and part of the science areas. The second phase, which focuses on upgrades to the central commons, Project Lead The Way, and media center areas, are set to be complete in December. Final renovations will conclude in August 2024.
“It’s been a very fast project and it’s all coming together,” said LeMasters about the first construction phase.
WCS Board President Heather Reichenbach and Board Member Brad Johnson both said their children, who are recent WCS graduates, were impressed by the upgrades.
In her report to the board, Sheila Howe, director of human resources, said she was pleased with where the school district currently stands in terms of staffing. Some paraprofessional and bus driver positions are still available, with WCS offering sign-on and referral bonuses for the latter.
The board also gave Chief Financial Officer April Fitterling permission to advertise WCS’s 2024 budget. A public hearing for the budget will be held in September, with a final vote to take place in October.
The board’s next regular meeting is at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at the WCS central office.
