Roadwork On SR 15 Is Culvert Replacement
News Release
WABASH — The highway project north of Marion’s Four Mile Bridge on SR 15 is not bridge work.
Rather, it is the installation of a new culvert which is buried more than 20 feet underneath the road about 200 yards north of the Mississinewa River bridge.
This long-term highway project began in July and is expected to be finished by late November.
The culvert was installed when the SR 15 road grade was constructed nearly more than 75 years ago, so it was in need of replacement. The culvert will carry a stream and pass it into the nearby river.
The precast concrete segments of squaw culvert pipe are placed with the aid of a counterbalanced crane, which was delivered to the site on a half-dozen semi-trailer trucks.
The work is being accomplished by the Indiana Department of Transportation via the Indiana Highway Department.
Local traffic between Marion and Wabash are routed for a two-mile detour. Drivers who have missed or ignored the detour signs have reported problems turning around by the construction site.
