INDIANA — A burial in the wrong gravesite in Brown County’s Unity Baptist Church Cemetery is causing headaches and difficult emotions for two Hoosier families.

In the beginning of August, Margaret Stewart was buried at the cemetery. Last Friday, Sept. 15, another family noticed that someone had been buried on their family’s gravesite. Quickly, the families realized Stewart was buried in the wrong grave.

Verbie Camden and Christy Ward realized the gravesite mix up when they were visiting their father’s grave. They realized the grave beside their father, adorned with their mother’s name, was occupied. Their mother was still alive, still fighting with lung cancer.

The sisters reached out to Stewart’s family, and they were equally disturbed. The cemetery and funeral home are trying to fix the issue.

Camden joined the cemetery board to ensure this problem never happens again.
