North Webster Public Library Announcements
There’ll be bird brains in the Library next week when wildlife rehabilitator Maria Waltz presents her Family Bird Program at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10.
You’ll get to meet a live eastern screech owl and learn about many other kinds of birds. Holding state and federal wildlife rehabilitation permits, Maria works with migratory birds and operates Hawk Sanctuary, a private non-funded facility where she cares for injured, diseased, and displaced birds. Her Family Bird Program will include a craft for younger children while the older kids will have an opportunity to dissect an owl pellet. Special shaped owl snacks will also be served. The program is limited to 20 children, so pre-registration is required to attend. Families must sign up at the Youth Services Desk by Saturday, Oct. 5 to reserve their seats for this free educational and entertaining program.
Meanwhile the adults will be “losing it” at the library – not their tempers, but those unwanted pounds. Starting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, the library will be hosting a weight loss support program called “Losing It @ The Library”.
The program will provide encouragement, education and accountability to help participants achieve their weight loss goals. Registered nurse Mary Erb will lead the group in learning about nutrition, weight loss strategies, exercise, health issues and other related topics. Guest speakers will also make appearances from time to time. The program is free and no advance registration is required. Just come, have fun and get the encouragement you need to start “losing it”!
Teens, get ready for the Book Trailer Challenge! Teen Read Week will take place from Oct. 14-19, we’re challenging all teens to read a book they really like, then make a book trailer of it, and e-mail it to our Youth Services Manager Katie Shelby at [email protected] Winning entries will be posted on the library’s website and the winner receives free movie passes or a book of their choice. So start reading and start filming. We can’t wait to see what you’ve created.
Preschool Story Time continues every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. as 3-5 year-olds explore music and motion with Mrs. Pam in the Youth Services Department. The 8-week fall session continues until Nov. 27 (with the exception of Oct. 23). Openings are still available for both time periods, so sign your child up at the Youth Services Desk. You can also register your child by calling 574-834-7122 ext. 202 or e-mailing [email protected].
