Couple Charged For Stealing Trailers, Excavator In Marshall County

PLYMOUTH — A husband and wife are facing criminal charges for allegedly stealing trailers and an excavator in Marshall County.
David Rice, 57, Walkerton, is charged with theft where the value of the property is over $50,000 and conspiracy to commit theft, both level 5 felonies; and five counts of theft and four counts of conspiracy to commit theft, all level 6 felonies.
Amber Sneed, 37, Walkerton, is charged with conspiracy to commit theft where the value of the property is over $50,000 and theft where the value of property is over $50,000, both level 5 felonies; conspiracy to commit theft and theft, both level 6 felonies; and conspiracy to commit theft, a class A misdemeanor.
On Oct. 12, a Marshall County Sheriff’s Office detective investigated a report of a dump trailer belonging to Bran Roofing being stolen from an area in Plymouth on Oct. 5.
According to court documents, the trailer’s contents were found near St. Joseph County. Two enclosed trailers were also reported stolen on Sept. 25 and Oct. 1.
On Oct. 12, the detective drove by Rice’s residence and noticed two vehicles which were allegedly involved in the thefts.
On Oct. 16, a man said Rice and another individual stole an enclosed trailer from a business in Plymouth. The man also said Rice, the individual, and Sneed stole an excavator near Culver. The man said he was involved in both of these thefts. He also said Sneed is usually present whenever the thefts occurred, acting as a navigator. Sneed is listed in court documents as Rice’s wife.
At this time, the man and individual have no criminal charges filed against them.
The man said Rice and the individual also stole an enclosed trailer, brought it to his home, and painted it. He also took law enforcement to where the stolen dump trailer and excavator were.
On Oct. 17, a person said he purchased a trailer and some sheets of plywood from Rice.
Rice and Sneed were both booked in the Marshall County Jail on Oct. 19.
