Janet S. Hudson
Janet Susan Hudson, 100, of Warsaw, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023, at Grace Village in Winona Lake.
She was born on Aug. 8, 1923, in Indianapolis to James and Lucille Sortwell. She married Edward Hudson on July 26, 1942, and enjoyed 67 years of marriage until Ed’s passing in 2009. He was the love of her life.
Janet Susan Sortwell was saved at Wheeler Mission in downtown Indianapolis as a child. She was known for avidly reading her Bible; for many years she read through the Bible at least two times. Wow. She is at home with her Lord.
Janet and Ed were married right before he was deployed into service for World War II. She worked at an ammunition armory during the war. She enjoyed her years as a homemaker while the kids were growing up. Afterward she joined the work force by going to school and becoming a licensed practical nurse.
Janet was a great mom and made several dresses for the girls and suits for the boys. She even made several wedding dresses for the family. She loved her grandkids and relished beating everyone possible in any board game … she was very competitive.
Surviving family are two daughters, Sandra (deceased spouse, John) Dicken, of Goshen, and Rebecca (and spouse Keith) Gillming, of St. Louis; and two sons, Timothy (and spouse Jane) Hudson, of America at large, and Ronald (and spouse Deborah) Hudson, Warsaw. Her legacy extends to 18 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, on Dogwood Lane.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Warsaw Salvation Army, 501 E. Arthur St., Warsaw.
McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, Warsaw, is handling the services.
