Elkhart County Nonprofits Launching ‘Week Of Compassion’

GOSHEN — Starting Saturday, Nov. 11, through Friday, Nov. 17, several nonprofits in the Elkhart County community are coming together for events in honor of homelessness awareness week and are calling the week of events “Week of Compassion.”
The organizations involved include Guidance Ministries, Saving Grace, First Light Mission, Oaklawn, Church Community Services, the Window, Salvation Army in Elkhart and Goshen, Center for Healing and Hope, Heart City Health, the housing authorities in Elkhart and Goshen, Elkhart County Humane Society, the Elkhart County Health Department and Faith Mission.
Saturday, Nov. 11: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Community Resource Fair, Dunlap United Methodist Church
Sunday, Nov. 12: Starting at 1 p.m., “A Walk in Their Shoes” is a walk from the Civic Plaza in Elkhart to First Light Mission in Goshen.
Tuesday, Nov. 14: “A Place at the Table” is a fundraiser for First Light Mission. Tickets are available at firstlightmission.org.
Wednesday, Nov. 15: At 5:30 p.m., a free community dinner will be served at Saving Grace, 405 W. Beardsley Ave., Elkhart.
Thursday, Nov. 16: At 5 p.m., a free community dinner will be served at Guidance Ministries, 216 N. 2nd St., Elkhart, followed by an ABC documentary and a panel discussion about homelessness and poverty.
Friday, Nov. 17: Starting at 6 p.m., “Night Without a Home” will take place at Goshen Salvation Army. There will be a documentary and dinner, followed by an evening of outdoor living. Participants may join in dinner and the documentary even if they are not able to stay overnight.
