WARSAW — A Warsaw man will serve a four-year sentence locally after burglarizing a property near Pierceton and stealing items.
Johnny Ray Greene, 60, 5870 S. Woodland Lane, Warsaw, was charged with burglary and two counts of theft, all level 5 felonies; and theft, a level 6 felony.
Greene was sentenced in Kosciusko Superior Court One on Thursday, Nov. 16.
For each Level 5 felony, Kosciusko Superior Court One Judge Karin McGrath sentenced Greene to four years in the Indiana Department of Correction, with 2 1/2 years executed and 1 1/2 years suspended on probation. He also received a one-year DOC sentence for the Level 6 felony theft charge. All four of Greene’s charges will be served at the same time.
McGrath said she had no objection to Greene serving the executed part through work release, which Greene has been accepted to. Greene has 140 days of jail time credit.
In total, Greene received a four-year sentence, with 2 1/2 years executed and 1 1/2 years on probation.
At sentencing, Greene and Defense Attorney Cory Spreen said Greene had returned some of the items he stole. A restitution hearing was scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Dec. 14.
On June 3, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a burglary south of Pierceton. A man said he noticed a door to an attached garage was kicked in and a pole barn door was open. Surveillance footage showed two individuals forcing open the garage’s door and stealing items. Greene was later identified as one of the involved individuals.
According to court documents, the total value of all the items taken was over $750 but less than $50,000.
