Warsaw FFA Competes In Area 10 Crops, Forestry, Entomology Contests

WARSAW — Warsaw FFA recently competed in the Indiana 4-H/FFA Area 10 Career Development Events for FFA crops judging, forestry judging and entomology judging.
Students who participated in the forestry judging had to identify tree leaves, tree seeds and wood specimens, along with common tree insects and diseases. They also had to take a forestry industry quiz. Warsaw FFA earned a second place FFA team in Area 10 in the Senior FFA Division. Individually, Makayla Riley placed fifth, Jadrien Burge placed sixth, Rylan Cooper placed seventh and Kacen Butler placed 27th. Khloe Hinojosa competed as an individual FFA senior and placed 33rd. This placing qualifies the team for the state contest on Saturday, Dec. 9, at Purdue University.
In the forestry Junior Division, the Warsaw FFA team placed third overall with individual placings by Kade Lackey, fourth; Amy Joy, 15th; and Natalie Hohman, 19th. Lackey earned a ranking that made him eligible to compete as an individual in the state contest Dec. 9.
Students who participated in the entomology judging had to identify insects and their classification orders, and also take an entomology industry quiz. Warsaw FFA earned a third place FFA team in Area 10 in the Senior FFA Division. Individually, Kendall Gibson placed fifth, Cale Wise placed seventh, Gentry Hall placed 11th and Payten Irvine placed 18th. This placing qualifies the team for the state contest. Sadie Reed earned an eighth place individual in Junior Division entomology contest.
Students who participated in the crops judging had to identify seeds and plants from crops and weeds, identify plant diseases and insects, identify common agronomic equipment, take an agronomic industry quiz and grade samples of grain. Warsaw FFA earned a 15th place FFA team ranking in Area 10 in the Senior FFA Division. Individually, AJ Truex placed 32nd, Jaren Arnett placed 49th, Bailey Goon placed 54th and Gretchen Robinson placed 55th.
