Staff Report
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested for allegedly kicking a police officer’s leg and stealing several food items from Kroger.
Jacob Bryce Grimm, 32, Warsaw, is charged with battery to a public safety official, a level 6 felony; resisting law enforcement and theft, both class A misdemeanors; and public intoxication, a class B misdemeanor.
On Dec. 21, a Warsaw Police officer responded to a theft at Kroger. A man grabbed a 12-pack of Coca-Cola drinks from a customer’s shopping cart and left the store without paying for it.
Upon arrival at the scene, the officer found the suspect, later identified as Grimm, sitting near the building and talking with store employees. The officer noticed Grimm was exhibiting signs of intoxication.
According to court documents, while being taken into custody, Grimm became angry and kicked a Warsaw officer in the leg. The officer was taken to a local hospital for medical clearance.
During the investigation, it was determined Grimm took the Coca-Cola, a package of lunch meat, and a bag of chips from the store without paying for the items.
Grimm has two pending criminal cases in Kosciusko County. On Dec. 19, Grimm took pizza from a Domino’s delivery employee without paying for the pizza. On Dec. 17, Grimm took a half-gallon of vodka from Service Liquors East without paying for the alcohol.
At the time of the Kroger theft, Grimm was on pretrial release with electronic monitoring for an intimidation case. He also has a pending violation of a suspended sentence for a public intoxication case.
Grimm was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Dec. 21, with a $10,250 surety and cash bond.
