Ramirez Arrested For Allegedly Battering Pregnant Woman
Staff Report
SYRACUSE — A Syracuse man was recently arrested for allegedly battering a pregnant woman.
Federico Ramirez, 32, 8931 E. Hatchery Road Apartment A., Syracuse, is charged with domestic battery to a pregnant woman, a level 5 felony; and domestic battery with a child under 16 present and strangulation, both level 6 felonies.
On Oct. 7, 2023, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a domestic dispute in Syracuse. The deputy spoke with a woman and a child at the scene.
According to court documents, the woman, who was pregnant with twins at the time, said Ramirez choked her in front of the child. She said she and Ramirez had been verbally arguing since Oct. 4, 2023.
On Oct. 7, 2023, the woman said Ramirez started throwing items on a counter away after complaining about the house being a mess. When Ramirez realized the woman was recording him on her cellphone, they began physically fighting over the phone. During the incident, Ramirez allegedly grabbed the woman around her neck and the woman scratched Ramirez’s arms and back in an attempt to get him off her. Ramirez threw the woman’s phone outside and left the scene.
The child told the deputy they saw Ramirez choke the woman. In a phone conversation, Ramirez said he took the woman’s phone and attempted to leave the residence, but that the woman grabbed him by his clothing and tried to prevent him from doing so.
Ramirez was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Jan. 11, with an $11,000 surety and cash bond.
