John W. Mansfield
John W. Mansfield, 70, of Goshen, Ind., and formerly of Syracuse, Ind., passed away at 5:29 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at his home.
He was born on June 7, 1943, in Michigan City, Ind., to Fred W. and Elsie M (Phillips) Mansfield.
He graduated in 1961 from Isaac C. Elston High School in Michigan City and was a United States Vietnam Army Veteran. He moved to the Syracuse area in 1977 from La Porte and to Goshen in 1998 from Syracuse.
On July 23, 1994, in Syracuse, he married Vicki K. (Rice) Heath who survives. He retired in 2005 from Odessy Group in Bristol, Ind., and was formerly employed at NIBCO in Goshen for 9 years, Goshen Cushion for 5 years, Joy Manufacturing in Michigan City for 9 years, and Dave Carter & Associates in Elkhart for 7 years.
He was a life member of the VFW and DAV #15 in Goshen and member and past commander of American Legion Post 223 in Syracuse.
He is survived by his wife: Vicki Mansfield, Goshen, Ind.; a daughter: Michelle (Steven) Hoover, Syracuse; two stepdaughters: Cathy Heath and Amie (Walter) Dutton, both of Warsaw; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Barbara Kloss and Vella Pointon, both of LaPorte, Ind.; and a brother: Earl Mansfield, Rolling Prairie, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Lois Mansfield, Florence Mansfield and Wilma Mansfield; and six brothers: William, Richard, Louis, Glen, Leon and Lester Mansfield.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Sarah Tuttle of the Rock Church in Syracuse officiating. Private family graveside services will take place at the Syracuse Cemetery.
