Silver Lake Man Arrested For Two Home Improvement Fraud Cases
Staff Report
WARSAW — A Silver Lake man was recently arrested for two acts of home improvement fraud he allegedly committed in Kosciusko County in 2013.
Elvis Andy Allison, 36, 66 N. Bass Road, Silver Lake, is charged with two counts of home improvement fraud, both class A misdemeanors; and two counts of home improvement fraud with an enhancement, both Class D felonies.
On July 10, 2013, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a home improvement fraud. A man said Elvis and Bobby Allison came to his home and offered to seal coat his blacktop driveway for between $200 to $300. The man said he allowed the Allisons to do so.
According to court documents, when the Allisons finished sealing the driveway, they gave the man a bill for $1,125. When he asked why it was so much money, the Allisons allegedly said it was because they had to seal his garage floor. The man said he knew the price was incorrect, but wrote them a check for that amount. Elvis cashed the check.
On July 11, 2013, a KCSO deputy responded to a second home improvement fraud involving the Allisons. A man said the Allisons came to his home and asked to seal coat his blacktop driveway on June 19, 2013.
The Allisons allegedly told the man there would not be a charge for sealing his driveway because it was under warranty. The man agreed to let them seal the driveway since there was no charge.
After sealing the driveway, the Allisons gave the man a bill for $2,140 and told him it was for labor. The man gave the Allisons a check in that amount on June 20, 2013. Elvis was identified as the individual cashing the check at a bank in Plymouth.
The deputy contacted local companies to obtain estimates for seal coating the driveways. Company representatives said the men were both charged over four times the fair market value for the work that was done. One representative also said the garage floor was concrete and that it was not a material requiring seal coating.
Bobby was sentenced in August 2015 on two counts of home improvement fraud. He received a four-year sentence at the Kosciusko County Jail, with two years executed and two years suspended on formal probation.
Elvis was booked in KCJ on Feb. 20, 2024. A photo of Elvis was unavailable for publication.
