Leesburg Man Arrested For Allegedly Using Cigarette To Burn Woman
Staff Report
LEESBURG — A Leesburg man was recently arrested for allegedly using a cigarette to burn a woman.
Kirk Harrison Edwards, 44, 440 E. 575N, Leesburg, is charged with domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
On Jan. 25, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy spoke with a woman about Edwards battering her. The woman said she and Edwards were talking when Edwards became irate and aggressive.
According to court documents, Edwards burnt the woman with a cigarette in the middle of her back. The deputy observed the woman’s injury and noted the burn mark was in a location that would be very difficult for the woman to self-inflict. After the altercation, the woman said she drove to a relative’s home and told the relative about Edwards burning her with a cigarette.
The relative said Edwards acknowledged the cigarette burn, but said it was inflicted by accident while he and the woman were wrestling. A second relative said Edwards then changed his story on how the burn occurred.
Edwards allegedly told the deputy the woman must have burnt herself.
Edwards was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Feb. 20, with a $6,000 surety and cash bond. A photo of Edwards was unavailable for publication.
