Warsaw Man Arrested For Possessing Drugs, Allegedly Helping Wanted Person Evade Arrest
Staff Report
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested in two cases for drug possession and allegedly helping a wanted person evade arrest.
Mark Edward Young, 64, 602 S. Union St., Warsaw, is charged with possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, and assisting a criminal, all level 6 felonies; possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor; and false informing, a class B misdemeanor.
On March 4, a Warsaw Police officer saw Young pumping gas into a vehicle. At the time, the officer had knowledge about an active arrest warrant for Steffan A. San Filippo, Warsaw, regarding a probation violation.
According to court documents, the officer had previously arrested San Filippo when he was driving the vehicle Young was pumping gas into. The officer also knew San Filippo used to live with Young.
The officer told Young he was attempting to locate San Filippo and that if Young prevented the officer from apprehending him, it would be a crime. Young allegedly said he would never do anything to hinder the officer.
About an hour later, the officer received a phone call from Young’s probation officer, who saw text messages on Young’s phone about San Filippo being at Young’s residence earlier that day. In the messages, Young tipped San Filippo off and told him he needed to leave because law enforcement was looking for him.
The officer went to speak with Young at the county’s probation department. Young admitted that he lied when he spoke with the officer and told San Filippo law enforcement was looking for him.
On March 5, a Warsaw Police officer was contacted by a Kosciusko County probation officer to assist in a home visit with Young. Upon officers’ arrival, Young gave permission for the residence to be searched and said there was nothing illegal inside the home.
While searching the home, officers found a pill identified as a controlled substance and meth. Young said he used meth at the home multiple times.
Young was previously convicted of narcotic drug possession in May 2023 in Kosciusko County.
Young was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on March 20.
