Warsaw Student Intern Seeing The ‘Different Sides Of Agriculture’

WARSAW — Cale Wise is working as an intern at Bishop Family Farm LLC through the Warsaw Area Career Center’s Work-Based Learning program offered by Warsaw Community Schools.
Wise is the son of Tracie Wise and Ben Wise. He plans to attend Ivy Tech to pursue an applied science of agriculture degree.
What are your job responsibilities? “I am supposed to listen to instructions to perform standard maintenance, cleaning, driving and other farm jobs,” said Wise.
How has this position been helpful to you? “It has helped me grow work ethic and personal skills.”
What have you learned? “It has helped me learn more about mechanics and equipment as well,” Wise said.
How is this job preparing you for the future? “By letting me see different sides of agriculture while still being taught about day-to-day practices.”
What do you like about this job? “My co-workers and the experience I get from working.”
What Career Center classes have you taken in your pathway? “Intro to Agriculture, Animal Science, Plant Science, Advanced Animal Science, Advanced Plant Science, Food Science, Precision Agriculture, Agribusiness.”
Wise’s supervisors are Steven Hall and owner Bob Bishop.
What duties does this student perform? “Cleaning, maintenance, changing tires, helping fix farm machinery, and learning to work with others.”
How is this job preparing this student for the future? “In real life he will need to work with others and apply some of the skills he has learned.”
What do you think of the WACC Work-Based Learning program? “I think the program is great to get students out in the work place to see what the future will be.”
Why were you willing to partner with the WACC in this program? “I have done this for several students over the years.”
