Warsaw Schools’ Chess Teams Triumph At Indiana State Championships

WARSAW — Warsaw Community Schools recently announced the achievements of WCS chess teams at the Indiana State Chess Team Regional and Indiana State Chess Team Championship.
On Feb. 24, Madison Elementary School’s “third grade and under” chess team secured a third place finish at the regional competition in Goshen. This impressive performance not only earned the team a trophy for their school but also individual trophies for each member. Their success has led them to qualify for the Indiana State Chess Team State Championship, which took place on March 23 in Hammond.
In addition to Madison, the “third grade and under” teams from Jefferson, Lincoln and Washington; along with the “sixth grade and under” teams from Jefferson, Lincoln, Madison and Washington; and Edgewood’s team, also secured their spots in the state championship.
In total, the Indiana State Chess Team Championship saw nine teams from Warsaw participating, with three of these teams placing in the top ten in the state. Competing in the “third grade and under” section, Lincoln secured ninth place, Madison got fifth place, and Washington placed third.
