Schofield Arrested On Drug Charges After Traffic Stop

ROCHESTER — A man was recently arrested in Fulton County on several drug charges after a traffic stop.
James Edward Schofield, 33, La Porte, is charged with trafficking with an inmate, a level 5 felony; possession of cocaine, a level 6 felony; and possession of marijuana, a class A misdemeanor.
On April 6, an Indiana State Police trooper was patrolling on US 31 near Rochester when he saw a vehicle traveling 81 mph in a 60 mph zone. The trooper pulled the vehicle over and identified its driver as Schofield.
According to court documents, while the trooper was speaking with Schofield, he smelled marijuana. Schofield said there was not marijuana in the vehicle, but admitted to smoking marijuana about an hour before the traffic stop.
Upon searching Schofield’s person, officers found a small bag containing marijuana.
When he was turned over to staff at the Fulton County Jail, additional illegal items were found on Schofield’s person. Staff found cocaine and a vape containing THC. Schofield admitted to jail staff that he was concealing the items on his person.
Schofield was booked in the Fulton County Jail on April 6.
