Syracuse Public Library Announcements
The Syracuse Public Library has several programs for children next week.
Story Time is starting at 10:30 a.m. on both Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 11-12. Young children will have a lot of fun while doing pre-reading activities.
Tuesday, Nov. 12, is the date for the Children’s Book Club. Children from kindergarten to fifth grade are welcome to join an evening of reading, games, and snacks from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
The second meeting of Book Buddies will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14. Attending any of the children’s programs is a wonderful way to introduce the fun of reading to kids. Kids who read well have an easier time in school, even in the areas of math and science.
The Adult Book Club is meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, to discuss, The Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold. Sebold tackles a tough, depressing topic, but many people find her viewpoint part of an uplifting narrative. Join the discussion if you have read the book or seen the movie. The group is serving decaf coffee. Adults are welcome to join an hour of friendly discussion. The number for the library is 574-457-3022.
Seussical Evening was a Success
Halloween was cancelled for the town of Syracuse, but the library came to the rescue. The library had alternate staffing prepared for Thursday and went ahead with Halloween festivities. On the night of Halloween more than 200 people enjoyed the balmy weather and got a Seussical treat. The elementary school and Facebook page must have gotten the word out.
The event was made possible by the generosity of volunteers like the Homemakers Club who sewed costumes and made fish. Several other individuals helped decorate on the day of the event. Volunteers filled in character spots along with actors from the library staff.
The Syracuse Library is committed to offering consistency and literary awareness in the lives of children.
